It has pretty much any restaurant or store you could want, and there's plenty of employment opportunities. However, your experience will vary a lot depending on what part of the region you live in. As a generally rule, you want to live in a neighborhood that is as rich as possible and as close to Downtown as possible. If you live way out in the suburbs or exurbs (like I have for most of my life), you lose out on a lot of the region's amenities.
Overall, the only real gripe I have with the LA area is the cost of living, particularly the housing costs. It does kind of suck that you pretty much need a 6 figure income or better to buy a house.
