The original Asteroids was pure information, everything on screen and everything you heard was to aid in playing the game at the highest possible level. That exact same philosophy is taken to the farthest extreme with Hyper Demon, there is not a single thing that you hear or see that doesn't convey useful information to the player, zero bloat, absolutely no filler. Most games with no bloat eventually have optimized strategies emerge and the game becomes boring, but hyper demon is fine tuned with technical complexity beyond a game like quake and a skill ceiling to match. If Hyper Demon clicks with you there is no other game like it, period. It is a pure arcade gaming experience unmatched by any other and it has noticeable physical effects on new players, the sensation of the brain physically heating up is a known and consistent symptom of Hyper Demon. This is why I think every ligger should play it, you can learn more about a person after they play Hyper Demon for 2 hours than you can after living with them for 2 years. It is every form of mental test all at once.
