>FinalSpark estimates its Neuroplatform is a million times more energy efficient than a digital processor. And there you have it. The Mechanicus had it backwards, flesh is actually extremely OP.
Just think about your brain for a moment. If you just focus you can instantly recall memories from decades ago, complete with video and audio, you can make shit up on the spot, imagine sensations such as flavour and temperature, all the while still remaining at least somewhat aware of your surroundings, all the while your brain is also constantly working to keep you alive by controlling involuntary stuff such as your heartbeat while also making your body move how you want to. And even with all these extremely complex tasks, your brain consumes less energy than a modern GPU.
Now imagine a brain the size of a computer, but it doesn't have to bother with any bodily functions and only has to do AI stuff. We'd probably be able to simulate entire universes. Now mix it with full-dive VR, which is probably pretty close with how much traction brain-computer interfaces have been gaining.
The future isn't that dark. Or maybe it is, depending on how you look at it. If we manage to keep the future AI Gods from exterminating us, I imagine at some point most if not all of humanity will have retracted into their own personal AI-powered VR heavens and Earth will end up actually populated by our also AI-powered robot guardians that'll just work to keep us alive and everything functioning in case someone ever feels like coming back to reality.
