>>82038809That Snake skin is very interesting. It looks more like the Great Serpent skin found in the Church of Eiglay in Volcano Manor than it does Messmer's abyssal serpents (they come in 2 variants).
Speculation is it's tied to Marika's cardinal sin and ascension. We see Marika pulling golden strands (most likely the form of great runes by visual evidence tying it to Marika's Hammer in the original 2019 E3 trailer). Speculation is around her ascension in this case, specially in the story trailer where you see her pull the strands out of something and raise them to the sky at the Divine Gate. What the thing is is hard to say, but it very likely could have been Placidusax' God (who could also be the same entity discussed ahead), but one of the speculations is it was the Gloam Eyed-Queen, and that was Marika stripping the Rune of Death, thus creating the "Sordid affair of Shadow and Gold", creating her Order in which Death us separated from Life, and thus Death becomes a SHADOW to life.
To support this there is evidence of GEQ involvement in Farum Azula through the Godskin Duo, and that they likely worshipped the God of Destined Death (GEQ), because while Dragons are immortal due to their ability to manipulate time, their servants, the elevated beastmen are not, and have some of the most culturally distinct burial rites. In fact Farum Azula is a mausoleum city. Maliketh also choses Farum Azula as his place to stand watch over Destined Death assigned to him by Marika. Also to note, the Temple of Eiglay where the giant shed skin is found is guarded by a Godskin noble and a Blackflame Monk (Fire Monks that have fallen to the power of the Black Flame, which was once Destined Death) outside.
Circling back, it is very likely that the shed serpent skin by the statue of The Village Grandmother (looking closely and comparing to other Marika depictions, this old statue shows an older woman than Marika, and is sprouting like the Grandmother Tree in the village) that gives you O Marika is tied to Eiglay The Great Serpent and the Gloam-Eyed Queen. The Serpent is to represent Marika's cardinal sin, most likely the population of Gold(Light) and Shadow(Abyss). Aka she probably fucked it, drained it, and stole its Great Rune of Destined Death
