Early 00s party culture and newgrounds / youtube also shoved drug references down our throats constantly, plus the older media our parents gave us still had tons of anti drug messaging that just didn't land cause it's old and the current stuff is about doing coke and raping women in cambodia. Drugs were a lot more taboo as a subject matter before we all started seeing snuff films at age 10.
