The main obstacle you'll face as a completely new player is that the WotC expansion adds tons of content all throughout the base game, but this means if it's your first time in XCOM 2, there's going to be a LOT of concepts thrown at your in the early part of the game. Just stick through it, since the game both offers a bunch of ways to fix mistakes or make up for bad missions, but also failing your first campaign is often times better as you'll have a much better picture about what to expect in early game.
