I was getting hurt by it so I just told her hey that's a bit much, can you please not say that anymore? She apologized while laughing awkwardly, but I didn't assume the worst and we just moved on with our day hanging out. A year later we met up again and she bought up that situation. I had forgotten about it and said it's okay but she told me "no, I'm glad you called me out on that. It wasn't right of me, please tell me if I ever say something that hurts you like that again". Telling people is all it takes because some people just don't realize what they're saying. A lot of people assume the worst in people's intentions and if you can let go of that, the world doesn't seem like such a hopeless place.
