there are no games which require any strategic thinking whatsoever that are popular these days and the only way that RTS games are going to be popular again is when the game playing denizens within society can handle thinking more than 5 seconds into the future
honestly i only see the revitalization of RTS happening through microsoft because as much as people believe it to be true their miniature niche RTS games have never and will never be as popular or widespread as starcraft was and since microsoft owns the IP for starcraft its in their hands now
