>>22047626The thing is, with principal losing the "war" and the hard conservatives winning in the end, all of our expansion plans are mostly thrown out of the window. And that would be because of the people now in charge: they look up to the Directive as a holy law, something NOBODY breaks. Yet, the man that was supposed to lead them attempted just that. They won't let that happen again. Which means that now the Directive is an iron law. (IRL example: imagine getting stopped for going slightly over the limit on a road, but instead of a warning or a ticket at worst, you get put into cuffs at gunpoint and sentenced to a year of prison time). Because their holy law almost got broken and thrown aside, they are paranoid, and will jump at even the slightest rumour of Sanallites breaking it(and may Sana help you if the rumour was true).
What this translates for this project specifically is that security will be at an all time high, and anything that might even remotely translate into a technological advancement for the locals, in this case /who/ (who have already expressed interest into our knowledge) will be hidden from them. So what we would be stuck with are this era's tools and this era's schematics for ships. ANYTHING that might stray from those, that would enhance the end result, while /who/ is around would be strictly forbidden. This is basically the worst possible outcome
and i regret advancing the story towards principal changing the directive now, but hindsight and all that >>22048272Sadly, this also extends to the /inf/. A dome where we would live would need plenty of tech that you just don't have access to at the moment, so the conservatives would cancel it, out of fear of losing it, specially when the structure would be in an advanced nation on the other side of the globe. The "do not share the technology with the locals" extends to ALL of our technology, not only what could be used in war. Under that same rule falls the sharing of knowledge, so a scientific complex is also completely out of the question.
All in all, this development for /nasa/ deeply saddens me, specially since i was one of the main instigators for change, but had to bail out a few days ago due to real life, before the direction we should take was finalized. Unless an unexpected twist happens, i can only see us going down the route of a police state at this point, and i don't want any part in that.t. /nasa/ Navigator, author of "Winds of change"
