In New Vegas it makes you explore and incentivizes learning recipes so you can make more variety out of enemies you loot and plants you gather. In scenarios where you’re stripped of your gear, it makes it more challenging before you get your gear back and can lead to “shipwrecked” scenarios playing out. In MP games the appeal is mostly for PvP purposes, as it incentivizes resource control on the map and smart strategies like starving out opponents you can’t crack. In PvE MP, it forces you to not sit around and work with friends to hunt and gather with the group in mind early on, and set up functional farming systems later on.
It’s not for everyone but it’s a layer of challenge. In a game like Made In Abyss, binary star
mainly modded because they took out a lot of necessities like peeing and sleep but the code is still there it’s a huge factor in promoting the narrative setting, making you take risks you wouldn’t because survival matters a lot
