I was here from the beginning. At least before Ai-chan made her games channel, before fakkyu, before her PPAP even. It's been really weird seeing the transition from anime girls imitating 2011 vloggers to current streamer-idol hybrids. Japanese Youtube was so behind the times back then that those "aru aru" videos were still trendy, basically vlogs talking about relatable experiences in school/work/concerts/whatever. Then the western fandom kinda died when youtube removed the option for user submitted CCs and all the vtuber fansubs died. Back then even niche JP vtubers like DWU or Mochi Hiyoko had some western fans that subbed their videos, now they're almost exclusively JP because most people can't understand Japanese.
