>>28378844>>28381143Rum? I like rum! I've been neglecting finding new rums to try, so please forgive me if this is a bit narrow. I think Malibu and Captain Morgan/Kraken are good if you're looking for something inexpensive and good enough if you just want to drink (perfect if you wanna mix cocktails!). I'm a huge fan of Jamaican rums for their signature funky taste, but I understand that it turns a lot of people off. Pusser's, Smith & Cross, and Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum are excellent if you want to try out funky rums (I suggest easing into it with a cocktail; a double Pusser's and coke was my go to before I finished the bottle, and the painkiller is a fantastic tiki drink that's tasty and aesthetic all in one!). Demerara rums are a bit sweeter and have a lovely brown sugar aroma, however, I will confess that I've mostly only had the 8 and 12 year bottles of El Dorado rum so take that with a grain of salt. Special shoutout to Bumbu (the classic clear bottle with an amber liquid, not any other) for being a deliciously sweet and smooth rum that goes well on its own or in a simple 2-ingredient cocktail. I cannot recommend it enough if you have a sweet tooth (don't expect something grossly sweet like Licor 43 or some other liqueurs).
I've said it several times now, but 2-ingredient cocktails are great for all of these rums: you can dilute them as little or as much as you like without completely losing the rum's flavor. If you like ginger beer, then a classic cocktail is the Dark and Stormy which traditionally uses Goslings Black Rum. If you want something a bit sweeter and fruitier, then consider looking into making a simple mint mojito (no rec here since I haven't made one in forever). There's also the Malibu Sunset which combines Malibu (coconut usually), juice, and grenadine to make a dangerously pleasant drink! There are a variety of tiki cocktails that you can explore to see what they need, but they're generally your typical tropical drink that you think of at resorts or beaches or whatever.
