If that sounds paradoxical, consider this: if you do work off the books and get paid under the table - i.e., illegally - then you are still technically counted as "unemployed" by the state, and can therefore still qualify for certain social programs, basically double-dipping into the system in a way that law-abiding natives can't

>>63952646I can't speak for the Latins down south, but in America there wasn't much particular confusion at all until the Hart-Cellar Act of 1965 opened up the borders based on the apocryphal "nation of immigrants/melting pot" fanfiction. The lines between ethnic groups in the US were more or less clear-cut before that point.
