>>20422233You should definitely start with Dark Souls 1. There's a reason it kicked the whole series off and got so popular. It has much less aggressive enemies, slower, more methodical gameplay and defines the "punishing but fair" type of design that got the game so popular. Anyone's first trip through that game is an absolute blast as well, because it really feels like an accomplishment when you beat it the first time. It also feels really like an exploration adventure because you can't warp for until the second half of the game, meaning if you commit to a level/dungeon, the only way to get out is to walk back. There are only around 40 bonfires (checkpoints) in the game. DS3 has 77, for comparison.
The subsequent games also have the difficulty increased in various ways (more aggressive enemies, crazier bosses etc) because they had to find ways to keep the game challenging despite the playerbase knowing all their tricks.
DS Remastered is like 20 bucks on Steam.
