Whether it is their cultural arts or modern music sensibilities, Japanese people generally suck at making music and singing and only rare exceptions exist. Part of the modern issue is tied to the mass production / mass marketing nature of the Japanese entertainment industry, but even before the proliferation of idol shit and "visual" being more important than the auditory, it wasn't particularly fantastic. Enka music produced some crooners but even that pales in comparison to the vocalists of the US entertainers of the 40s and 50s.
Jap music sucks.
