If you think that them not being perfect is a problem, you have been watching too many Korean idols and/or too few Japanese ones. They're supposed to start out talented, but raw and humble (they might understate their skills at first) so that their fans can cheer them on and support them as they grow into the great idols they were meant to be.
It's the typical JP idol journey which, for holos, can be most clearly seen in their first holofes appearance being their big breakout moment. Think of Council's tweets about how they're going to give it their all for their fans before holofes earlier this year.
