as for the regenerative properties, I'm assuming that the insides of a bito are more viscous and complex than that of cytoplasm, allowing them to essentially not bleed out while the membrane regenerates. it's likely what contains the chromatophores that allow the bito to change it's pigmentation from that of it's pink, transparent self, to something more human
