There were internal conflicts between the US Army Air Corpse and the regular US Army. Internal conflicts between the classical US Navy Admirals and the ones who came from the US Navy Air Force. Also between Arthur and Nimitz.
What saved the US from being fucked by internal conflicts wasn't a kumbaya between the servicemen, but because Roosevelt and the Joint Chiefs of Staff had the power to remove anyone who's incompetence was harming the war effort. In Japan you couldn't do that if you didn't have a way to remove someone while allowing him to save face.
