Old man's job interview has concluded chumbies. I think that went really well - we both did a good job conveying my old man's venerable experience, dedication and workhorse nature, and I think I did a good job sitting nearby, looking professional and occasionally making people laugh during conversation. Here's me right before going in, with my best attempt at looking smart and presentable, given our constraints. The CEO turned out to be a carefree and eccentric type - I actually thought he was gay until he mentioned his wife - so I was kind of worried, because a friend of mine saw this photo and commented:
>Nigga you look like a hitman
And was concerned that I might have given way too serious of a first impression. Thankfully I think I managed to turn that to our advantage by simply telling him what my friend had said censored of course, which made him laugh heartily. I basically seemed to give the vibe that I was my father's manservant/bodyguard, which I think is about the best I could have asked for.
My dad and the team seemed to get on well - he made his expertise pretty apparent, citing his nature as a workhorse/utility player as his key strength while citing the fact that he's getting old as his biggest weakness. He then turned to me and said "you know me, what are my other weaknesses?", which earned a laugh as I stammered and was like "uh, kinda putting me on the spot here… hmm, yes, how shall I badmouth my father?"
After we were done with the interview and tour of the premises, the company rep treated us to lunch afterwards at a taco + tequila place. While there the rep mentioned they'd interviewed 3 or 4 applicants for the position already, so I asked him: "realistically, what are his chances of getting the job?" To which he nodded and firmly answered: "pretty good". I'll take that as a very, very encouraging sign.
All in all, it went about as well as I think I could have asked for. Now we move on to the house-scouting part of the trip. Wish us luck chumbies - if it is meant to be, may it be so
