>>69454757as i hope you are already aware, isopods are part of the order isopoda and are considered arthropods. which comes with everything that arthropods already have. chitinous exo-skeleton, moulting of the aforementioned exo-skeleton, etc. oh one neat fact that i might've already mentioned before is that the lens of their eyes is actually fused and part of the exoskeleton, which means they moult their eyes alongside the rest of the carapace.
there's roughly ten thousand different species of isopods worldwide, both marine, freshwater, and terrestrial. some of them are even external and internal parasites of fish. there's this one specific species of isopod within the family Cymothoidae that is commonly known as the tongue-eating louse (C. exigua). what these lil buggers do is they enter the fish through their gills, the female consumes the fish's tongue and attaches itself to the remaining stump and effectively becomes the its tongue. the parasite doesn't do much other physical damage to the fish, but the fish that have been parasitised have been reported to be underweight.
all in all they're really neat i think.
