>>29066667You're not overthinking it. She said as a first release under a major label, she wanted to try something more mainstream. It's fine if you don't like that and it's not going to be her style going forward.
It's taken a little time to grow on me but I do like SN as a whole, even if it's not my favorite. It's just in this case, Mori doing something "new" meant thinking inside a box. The best parts of SN are her using all the training she got for her voice (and these new songs are a much better experience on stage compared to just listening to them.)
