I get home from work, the lights are out in the living room, but for the table lamp by my recliner. The light shines over a nearly empty glass of white wine and my oshi's resting body. It's late, I should have been home hours ago, she waited up for me but passed out from drinking. I can't wait to sleep. My stomach intends to prevent me from doing so, and I would feel lonely in bed without her, so I retrieve from the fridge three Mint Oreos and chocolate milk. I can take my time enjoying them while my oshi snores away. It takes less than five minutes and gives me enough energy to lift and carry my oshi to bed. I'll eat my cold dinner for lunch the next day, it's no big deal. After quickly rinsing the glass and placing it in the dishwasher as quietly as I can, I walk to my recliner.
"Hey," I whisper gently, "are you awake?"
Nothing.
"All right if you don't answer, I'll have a hard time carrying you."
Still not sound save for her breathing. I lean in and hook her legs with my arm, causing her eyes to slowly open and she says "What's this?" and leans forward. I put my other arm behind her back to support her as I lift and say "Grab on," and she wraps her arms around my neck and holds me close. I begin carrying her to our bedroom on the third floor. Sometimes I regret choosing to sleep in the attic space and tonight is one of those times. My oshi is not asleep, but barely awake and asks "What took you so long?"
I reply, "Work stuff, you know."
"You know I worry." She says.
"I know, but soon you won't have to because the project is nearing its end"
"What" she asks, clearly unable to retain any information I would offer anyway. I kiss her. "Goddamn I hate these steps." We are on the second floor landing with one flight to go. "It doesn't matter," I pause "Well it's good news, so that's what matters." At the edge of the bed, where I now stand, I lower my oshi to her side and she lets out a faint "Yay" as sleep overtakes her. I'm not sure if she's celebrating the good news or the comfortable bedding but both are worthy blessings. I drop my pants, shirt, and socks into the hamper before sliding into our bed. I realize she was celebrating the good news because upon entering the bed my oshi immediately motions for me to spoon her, without so much as opening her eyes, by a single hand gesture. It isn't long before we fall asleep cuddling.
Good night, /lig/, I'm going to listen to a stream while I sleep.
