If you die in Welcome to the Machine you go back to the start. Not only that if you die at the final boss you get sent back to Welcome to the Machine. Going into the final boss is the only time in which you don't get a password for progressing, and when you beat the final boss the game gives you the password to reach the final boss. The final boss also has an attack that one shots you. You also need to ram into its mouth which performs that one hit attack.
It is also a complete tonal shift from the rest of the game which is in the sea. You are in an HR Geiger alien ship.
