Dino Guras were too stupid to build spaceships, but they nonetheless existed on two planets until our solar system passed through an interstellar dust cloud that triggered ice ages on Earth and Mars, which ended all life on Mars and nearly ended all life on Earth.
Mars is so bad off that life has still not restarted on the planet, despite Earth sending more microbes to Mars. The problem is the microbes won't awaken until they arrive on Mars, but they no longer recognize Mars as Mars.
So pretty much all I need to do is get an organism to Mars that will recreate an atmosphere and the whole planet will restart and fill with life.
