pollination is the act of plants using animals as a way to spread their genetic material over relatively long distances. pollinators, like bees, have a mutualistic symbiotic relationship between themselves and the plants they pollinate.
the animal gets provided with nectar and sustenance while the plant gets its genetic material spread all over the place.
in layman's terms, plants produce sperm which they then gets smeared all over the bee or the butterfly or even the hummingbird to which the animal then spreads those gametes to other flowers and plants, allowing fertilisation to happen and seeds to germinate.
however, animals aren't the only way plants can pollinate, since some fan also even use the wind as a way to spread their pollen, which is what happens in spring and allergy season. if you have any questions please refer them to me
