Oh also about the eldritch entity thing, I was thinking of it being brought into this world by some combination of our priests getting corrupted by a tome of schizo knowledge they came into the possession of, bla bla bla thing comes out kills them all, starts going towards Lamington because idk tension and stuff, we manage to redirect it and somehow contain it in or around one of your border forests. For the most direct inspiration, at least about the general flow of the event, I would suggest reading scp 2845 (without the whole castrating a man every x hours thing) as I think it portrays nicely how trying to "beat" the closest thing to a live God would go for us.
