Ironically almost all of those buildings are like 90% empty because the rent is too damn high even for office space. Everyone wants the artsy row houses with big public murals and art projects but no one wants to actually make them affordable for artists to live in. The city has been bleeding from cultureless tech bros for decades and you bring up a good point that it's also an issue of NIMBYism because the rich people who own most of the real estate are loving how unaffordable it is and lobby the city council to block more housing being built. So we steal their macbooks.
