The message that day was two-fold. Riku gets to bow and "apologize" in the kindest sense, while the NijiEN livers must deliver the most controversial statements, to protect their brand.
If there's anything to take from this, it is a serious failure to understand western culture and its perception surrounding corporations vs the individual. Oddly similar to the current Nippon Steel controversy where the nips underestimated the value of appealing to the US labour union, and now the merger is dead in water.
