Modern Yugioh is very combo/negate heavy and all about setting up a board full of things to stop your opponent from playing the game, plus you need to learn what every meta card does and what to stop to even stand a chance.
It's been criticized many times for being one of the least new player friendly card games out there. Pokemon, Runeterra, Hearthstone and even Magic are more simple in comparison.
In fact, Konami themselves know this and have tried things like Duel links and rush duel to make the game simpler just because it's so hard to get into.
