I personally like the idea that he's gored through to the other side; arm in a vice so he doesn't accidently twitch as he's frantically carving through flesh and bone with the same metal borer used to build the arms in the first place. I don't think he'd use pain killer- he wants to feel the weight of his guilt. But they, from the concept art, stop right about where the radius and ulna are, so I assume his arm ports are more like anchors for the plugs on his cape to go into. I don't know if it's kept as an open wound or if Magni also surgically implanted gold rims to keep bacteria from getting in and has them capped with the arm braces, but whatever- I want Altare or Axel to play around with the holes there. Touching the nerve ends themselves to turn Magni into a sobbing mess at just one slight kiss.
Fuking my brain I need to see his flesh getting ground up by his own hands. How shaky was the scalpel that he held? Was his blood still pure red or had it already changed into accursed purple? Maybe it was in the process, so Magni was bloodletting himself at the same time- a disturbing wet gradient surrounding him as he works on his back. It's obvious that from the complete disgust that Academy days Magni showed towards them that installation must be a terribly disturbing process, citing whoever would consider it to be some sort of sick freak. It really does lead me to believe that they directly plug into his nerves; think FMA style.
The ports on his arms seem to be more like anchorage points than a true 'port', like his back. I think whenever he's got them on it's nothing more than an overly large glove. Actually wait, If you look closer at his concept sheet- the plugs he uses to attach himself are directly on the glovecoat himself. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (I'll die if I watch the prologue again), but was the coat mentioned at all? Or only the arms? Because if Magni only talked about the arms, then had he come up with the coat himself? And in addition, the idea of his arm ports?
His back ports have to lead directly into his spine, how else would he have such ease in directing 4 extra limbs at one time? iirc He did say that they all have some sort of mind of their own (cause prev guildmate souls), but he can still actively control them in the Merry collab stream. I want to know how they connect, what is it that's interfacing with his spinal cord, and by extension, his brain directly. Magic fuckery or is it based off the weak electrical signals that brains naturally produce.

I guess a cloak wouldn't really have any strength to push back against however Magni wants to move his arms, or pick things up on its own. Maybe they could serve as an extra set of eyes too? Like, I'm not sure how it would really work out, but let's say the souls can still 'see' their surroundings. If someone was sneaking up on Magni adn it noticed, then even if the souls can't exactly move an arm on their own, by pushing back on the metal to alert Magni they could be like an early warning system for him. Quite fitting, me thinks, for a man who's always out to save his own skin to live another day.
I wonder if in moments of solitude Magni allows the arms to wrap around him in a hug.
