I somehow found the article of clothing that most likely inspired TCB when she designed Ike's cape like that by looking up when suspenders were invented (1820's) and searching up overcoat designs around that time and finding something called an inverness cape from around 1850's. Ike is, design-wise, from around 1850's. I don't know why I did this but hey it was fun.
