>>105002738It took me like 4 rewatches to understand why I take issue with this cover, and it pretty much boils down to whoever directed, or whoever mixed this, being a fucking idiot. I've unironically listened to like 40+ different versions of Umapyoi over the past 9 years, some ranging from very good (most of the Winning Live series of albums, though they're unfortunately game size and not full versions), to absolutely horrendous (Starting Gate 01's version, for example). And even the really bad versions were still passable because even if some of the voices did not mesh well together at all (fuck off Silence Suzuka) that was an individual performance problem, when they sang together as a group it was fine. Funny enough, after the Starting Gate series of albums they actually stopped doing 3 man versions of the song, outside of the meme versions of the anime trainer/the rival trainer/the announcer and even those versions had them either essentially reverb the voices, or layer their own voices to mimic the group aesthetic the song is supposed to bring.
What the mixer did here, and it's entirely their fucking fault, is layer their voices to the point that even in the "group background noises" you can pretty much only fucking hear IRyS or Bae, not both of them at the same time. It's an awful choice because they're supposed to be mimicking the audience who would actually be doing the calls, so it's supposed to actually sound like multiple people at all times, not sound like a sad individual person cheering for the girls at a mall performance where everyone else is walking by and not even attempting to participate. That said, the girls really should've stopped trying to sing the song so high, one of the better 3 man Umapyoi is literally Narita Brian, Symboli Rudolf, and Air Groove and they don't even try going that high because they literally do not have to and it individualizes their voices.
