Doujin works had always existed in the anime community but Touhou really took it to another level with the amount of engagement fans had with the character personalities and lore. The same people ended up in the early Vocaloid scene and the two fanbases co-existed for over a decade building off of eachother. In the end Vocaloid had much more mainstream appeal culminating in Miku becoming an international icon and she probably had the largest hand in inspiring vtubers as a whole being a virtual diva known all over the world.
Seems perfect that Lazulight have both a huge Touhoufag and Vocaloidfag that are best friends!
