With some time having passed, I've gotten a more coherent retrospect about how I felt and it's partially a cultural thing. In many places in the west or west-equivalent, it's pretty common to make pleasantries like "oh we should go there sometimes" or "we should do this again sometimes" but from where I'm from and from my upbringing, promises are a bit more strict and binding - they really are treated as obligations and promises. I felt pretty dejected when Kiki forgot the Doom project but remember every other champy project she'd maybe get involved in.
