If they gave Mario even just one scene where he was capable without using a power-up than this wouldn't be an issue. Sure he does some parkour without any at the beginning, but every time it actually mattered, he had to be doped up. Heck, even Luigi got a hero moment before he got a power-up to use
>Too much time in Kong kingdom
I get what they were trying to do, but they spent so much time in Kong land despite it being a Mario movie. All of the interesting Mario locations were relegated to a montage. The fact that they end up jobbing hard and not doing anything else for the rest of the film makes this even worse. The Kong/gathering an army plotline could have been dispersed throughout the party's travels in the mushroom kingdom.
