>>13235299I live in a college town, and delivery prices on food are obscene for anything other than pizza, which is still pretty overpriced. Coconut Virus also has a lot of stores closing up sooner (classes are still mostly remote, so there's not as much campus traffic, thus less incentive to stay open 24 hours). Most delivery services like DoorDash and UberEats also upcharge menu items when you order through them on top of charging a delivery fee and demanding a tip. Speaking of tips, since the delivery people barely get paid, they have no incentive to do the job well, and thus food has no less than a 30% chance of getting fucked over or outright stolen. If you report any issues, the service will refund you, but then you still don't have the food. Places like pizza joints and chinese food with dedicated staff are more reliable, but frequently suffer delays because that dedicated staff is usually made up of 16~20s kids who don't know where anything is and barely understand GPS.
It is cheaper, quicker, and more reliable for me to just get in my car and drive to get the food myself. I will only order delivery if I'm running up against a deadline and can't spare 30 minutes to get/make food.
