The actual Homestuck is a part of the old mspaint adventures forums, people posted suggestions as commands in the story to advance stuff happening. The cool part is when it starts building it's world and you start connecting dots of stuff happening yourself. It's not just a choose your own adventure thing, there's more to it
Characters have back and forth chats over the computer most of the time so the humor is more pre2010 Internet, but since it ran until 2014ish that changes over time too.
