I actually read Metamorphosis for Himes book club but since Shiina is doing ASMR I'll give my impressions early I expected it to be more comical with how near oblivious to the situation Gregor was at first. The very quick turn to uncomfortable tragedy when reality sets in is very harsh. It felt a lot like seeing a family memeber become crippled or gaining demntia/alzheimers with how there's inital care for the afflicted and it grows into resentment from the family where they stop treating them like who they are and just become a burden. The scenes where his mother cries to not take away his furniture and he has a moment that pulls him back to being more human was gut wrenching and the relief the family felt with Gregors death was uncomfortably familiar. Very sad but good story. I think Flowers for Algernon is still my favoirte short story though.
