He's the stereotype of a hyper masculine rugged barbarian chad but there's also a good amount of stories where he's finished conquering and is just bored out of his mind without the constant killing sorcerers and taking bitches.
He also has an unexpectedly vast skill set, like being able to keep up with a master thief and knowing military strategy and politics like the back of his hand. There's lots of description about him being horrified of all the grotesque monstrosities that pop up around him instead of a fearless badass and he's a lot more well rounded of a character than what you'd expect at a first glance.
