In Blade Runner in particular, he has a virtual girlfriend named Joi who encourages him throughout the movie. She also happens to be his only real friend, who then gets unceremoniously destroyed. Later, he finds that she may have simply been pre programmed to love him which spurs on its own unrelated to this memes chain of events. 4chan has taken these aspects (as well as the “goddammit” scene due to its particularly strong feelings of catharsis) to sculpt the identity of the “Gosling”, a person who chases virtual love hopelessly due to their personal feelings of loneliness in real life.
