countries that are culturally self-sufficient like the US and Japan (meaning they produce enough TV, movies, music, video games, books, etc. that a native can go their entire life almost exclusively consuming content from their own country) have a tendency to be more isolated from the rest of the world in terms of geographic, historical, and linguistic knowledge. Americans and Japanese people are similar in that most of them speak only one language and they know jack shit about anything going on outside their own country.
