Atleast with most reddit, twitter etc shit there's a big white box with black text to give you a setup for the image's punchline with "when you ____" shit, or its just a deepfried image of a tin of beans with a single word over it. Reddit and twitter shit is normally at most one or two levels of detached from their source. Meanwhile we reference memes about memes about memes about single lines from decade or older movies.
