Veterinary medicine (and human medicine too) is largely a meme of specialization in one autistic area with a generic license. Most vets are trained in one specific animal really in-depth (like horses/cattle in rural areas or dogs in suburbs) but the license is valid for all animals, so they usually don't know/care to accurately diagnose and fix problems for animals that aren't their specialty; sometimes it's because the actual fix costs an absurd amount and people don't want to/can't afford to spend it on their cat, but other times it's just laziness of "I don't want to learn about the issues of cats/dogs/whatever animal in question instead of my chosen type" from the vet. Normal doctors do the same thing in laziness, you can read about dozens of examples from the past few years of young children dying because doctors refused to just say "maybe he/she is diabetic" and letting them just go into a coma and die. Diabetic comas are pure suffering the whole way down and there's so many ways to prevent them in a medical setting, the laziness on these people (Vets and human doctors) is infuriating, especially when it causes undue (and easily avoidable) suffering.Animal diabetes really sucks to care for (mostly down to wrangling the animal to give an insulin dose or check blood sugar because animals aren't capable of understanding why the pain happens), I hope Shibi gets everything she needs to help her help Fia, they both deserve to be happy.
