Is there a term for the sort of character design that's not attractive or cute in the source material but is only ever drawn attractive and cute in fanart?
I know it's a thing and surely there's a word for it I can use when describing this half-baked idea for a model I have.
I'm not entirely comfortable with trying to pass myself off as some kind of ikemen anime boy (even though that's been proven to be the best option 99/100 times) but obviously I can't have an ugly, shitposty avatar either because it wouldn't capture anyone's interest.
So I had this idea of having a model that's not strictly speaking attractive or cute but can also be perceived as cute by fanartists and maybe enough auto-gas-lighting.
Does anything I said so far make any sense or am I just demented?
I'd also appreciate more generic advice on how you came up with your character concept, did you have something like an inspiration wall? did you consult the artist you were commissioning?
Artistic aptitude is one of my many, many failings so even figuring out what I want and putting it to words is not a trivial task for me.
