I view religion with the notion that it's main purpose is to guide people to a more orderly lifestyle, where we help each other out and do good for the community. Putting the pressure off you and being able to commit to god as a north star and reason to be a good person gives people a sense of relief over their life. Their actions are not their own, it is god acting through their body.
I was always the good kid, helped out my dad with his small business growing up, also did boy scouts and band. As long as you have a good set of morals, and basic human empathy, you don't need to put all your worries to a higher figure. I recognize the wisdom in it, but to be bound to it doesn't fit me as well
