If you have very little info on someone and you see them do one or two things, you may incorrectly judge them based on that. This can happen with keyfabe and autistic people not noticing the line between fantasy and the actual person.
I don't think I've ever seen him seen egoistic though. It's great he can take those messages in a mature way to be honest, even now he didn't rage at that one comment and instead chose his words carefully. So I wouldn't worry, seems like he's a smart lad!
