The devil is a big deal in latin american culture. In Mexico it gets mixed up with the weird pseudo-pagan stuff left over from the Aztecs into the Day of the Dead, which is kind of like their Halloween. I always believed that Halloween was inspired by it, but reading the wikipedia article apparently it comes from older European pagan stuff. Mexicans have some weird beliefs about things like the Chupacabra which is often used as a joke. Apparently it's some weird creature that steals farmers cows or something.
