They would lose every battle because the enemy would always try to fight at night and even if a day battle was forced, it would probably just be running into ambushes set during the night. Hannibal won all his battles against the Romans by maneuvering his forces under the cover of darkness to lay ambushes, which is a lot easier if all of your soldiers can see in the dark. Fact is, you can't do anything about soldiers moving at night, because it would be utter chaos trying to fight them blind or fumbling around with torches. So, at best you've been outmaneuvered, and at worst you've been drawn into a battle at night which is impossible to win.
