Risuners probably just said Gemstones and didn't specify anything else. If I'm remembering this correctly they don't really show outsiders their gem magic right? This would've happened during the tri-fleet visit so not like anyone would know any better if this is true.

Holo-imperial might not have a distinction for the terms, since we are still in the 18th century in terms of knowledge for most countries.
