You know what I don't get (and please, correct me if I'm wrong about any of this because I'm not a /u/ schizo and as such don't care that much)?
Iname has this reputation as being the "deeper", more "nuanced" nuanced ship of the two popular Ame ships because the art tends to lean in more on edgy subject matter. I've heard someone before say, in fact, that Iname is superior because it's tragic.
My grievances with Iname art specifically aside, I don't get how people don't see AmeSame as the sheer dramatic, tragedy bait character dynamic that it is (let's not even look at it as a potential romantic pairing for a second, just as a character dynamic because I find that's more universally applicable). Just think about it for a second:
-Gura is emotionally vulnerable. She is characterized as a childish figure, which itself implies naivete. This is further emphasized by her "fish out of water" status, being a foreigner from Atlantis who's experiencing surface living for the first time. She's also heavily associated with country music which, surprise surprise, is a genre that's also heavily associated with loss and longing for the past. Gura is naive and inexperienced with the surface world, and that makes a scenario where she gets her spirit crushed all the more poignant.
-Ame is physically vulnerable. Of all the EN members, she's the only one that's purely human (Ina WAS purely human, but she's clearly something more post-AO tinkering). Combine her humanity with her brashness and her ability to mess with time, and you have a character that you could very easily write into a harmful or deadly situation to set up the tragedy. Even that aside, her being human implies that she's going to age a hell of a lot quicker than Gura, which in turn opens up some kino as fuck "tragedy of long life" shit.
I know I said I don't care about /u/ shit, and that's true, but I do have a vested interest as a fan in seeing absolute kino come out of /u/ schizophrenia (or even better, kino from artists that don't care for pushing ships). I just wish more people saw the sheer potential in sadkino that Gura and Ame present or really even just Gura by herself. Hell, it's already a proven concept, just look at their brilliant A Way Out playthrough. I just want to see something that makes me feel, something like pic related does.
